My cold dead hand

It's abotu the only thing upon which Mr. Heston and I agree.

I support the right to bear arms. People determined to kill will get guns regardless. I don't think it's wise to disarm citizens and leave the only weaponry and knowledge of how to use them in the hands of the government. And we'd be doing this in the name of protecting ourselves from incidents as this? really?

What we're saying is let's take away guns so we can safely ignore disturbed individuals in society in the knowledge that they won't be able to kill as many people as they could if they had legal access to guns.

How about we work on better identifying individuals with mental issues and restrict THEIR access?

I believe in an armed and educated citizenry. I think both advocacy camps have staked out extreme positions (as usual with issues like this) and the result is a patchwork of measures that don't represent a sane and cohesive policy.

Down but not out

Tenacity. Gotta get me some of that.

Ok, so I picked today to restart the ol exercise diet program that my latest project at work effectively derailed. I'm still woefully behind but I've decided I can no longer sacrifice my health to my job. I have paid the price for that decision over the last decade and I'm determined to make 2007 the Year I took Control. Enough about me, you (well a couple of you) came for the other stuff.

So ... George Tenet is belatedly trying to disassociate himself from the disastrous march to the war in Iraq. Considering in hindsight how many administration figures were apparently NOT convinced of the evidence supporting miliary action or outright disbelieving of it, I think maybe Cheneyco* just waited till everyone else was in the cafeteria or in the bathroom or maybe just catching a quick nap in the Lincoln room, and somehow made it happen. I can see Tenet coming back 20 pds lighter from the bathroom asking what he missed and being told "Condi bought some homemade muffins but damned if George here didn't tear through them! Sorry man, you snooze you lose!".

So, to be clear on this Gonzalez mess, nothing will happen, he won't be fired or resign. You ever see one of those little windswirls that looks like it could become a tornado if only it were bigger and conditions allowed for it? A bit of dirt and debris does an angry little pirrouette and then peters out so fast, you're not sure if it wasn't just a breeze chasing its tail. That's what this Gonzalez business is.

Ok, back to work.
